What is Reiki?
Reiki is an alternative healing therapy that originated in Japan. It involves the use of energy transfer from the practitioner’s hands to the patient to promote emotional and physical healing. Reiki is believed to work by unblocking energy channels in the body and encouraging the flow of vital energy. It can be administered through touch or by placing the practitioner's hands near the patient’s body. Reiki is believed to provide several benefits for both the physical and emotional health of an individual.
Potential benefits of Reiki:
Assists with pain management: Reiki promotes relaxation and the release of tension in the body, which can help to alleviate the symptoms of pain and discomfort.
Reduces stress and anxiety: By stimulating the relaxation response in the body, Reiki can reduce feelings of stress, tension, and anxiety.
Promotes better sleep: Reiki helps to relax the body and mind, promoting a greater sense of well-being that can lead to improved sleep patterns.
Enhances emotional healing: Reiki can help individuals to release emotional blockages and promote a sense of inner peace and happiness.
Boosts the immune system: Reiki is believed to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, supporting the immune system to function more effectively.
Supports spiritual growth: Reiki can be a powerful tool for spiritual growth and self-awareness, helping individuals to connect with their inner selves and improve their sense of purpose in life.
The tradition was founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He dedicated his life to practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from master to student.
